This past week had been quite a ride. A week and some hours before I made this post, I had an impromptu interview in-person as a finalist for a position in central California and adjacent to the Bay area. At the given time, this position did not rank number one on positions I want to live. California’s cost of living is no small renown (or notoriety) for the reputation of the state. I still am sure I could never find a house in the place if I had the position.

Arriving in the area, everyone was serendipitously nice.

Update: Climbing From A Descent As An Empire Falls (Part IV)

I want to start this post with something one of my favorite artists said on her Facebook, something I no longer access except through messenger for various reasons.

“Never Again is happening on our watch.”

Azam Ali, who works with the bands Vas and Niyaz and one of the most compassionate artists I know out there, speaks truth to power. She made a statement condemning atrocities done in Gaza; none of which have anything to do with hunting Hamas. Someone in response echoed what people told me when I condemned the war in Iraq: “go back to your country from which you came if you don’t like what we are doing.” This, does not show a care for free speech at all, yet people say we in the United States are in ‘the land of the free, home of the brave.’

Update: Climbing From A Descent As An Empire Falls (Part III)

As we try to navigate this otherwise toxic terrain that is the United States of America’s politics, sometimes we can do all we wish with the best intentions and aware of ongoing issues and still stumble.

Hello, that was me a weekend ago. Before I go further, I will give a content warning of how I had taken for granted the delicacy of conversations around Hispanic, Latine-descended, and Spanish-descended identities. Though I understood this in theory, I had not awareness to the breadth ideal.
