It has been a few months since I made my last post. As I had indicated, dance classes eat up a lot of my free time. My vacation visiting family and friends had also been more busy than anticipated. All the same: life in the new year of 2026 had started on a rather positive note even while the world deigns to go on fire.

Update: Climbing From A Descent As An Empire Falls (Part IX)

I understand that I have not posted in a while, and for that, I genuinely apologize. This silence had also been reflected in a number of online community spaces where I had been at one point very active. It has been quite a tumultuous few months, and the pace definitely has done all but slowed down. This began with the move for my new tenure-track position—a job I love in a community where I hope to thrive. I have so many things to catch everyone up on, which means this long update will include a number of subheadings in favor of accessibility. The grand move did not happen without incident. No reprieve from other obstacles in addition to thousands of dollars I owe family for the move itself.

Update: Climbing From A Descent As An Empire Falls (Part VIII)

Our political climate still deteriorates and I still fear what might come of me in the next few years if I stay in the United States. Some who live in California have admitted I will not be completely safe there, but I would still find it safer there than other places. Regardless, the conversation of the despotic state of our world — this abhorrent timeline in which we live — must go on.

I recently joined a watch party for EuroVision. I had not paid attention to such for years, but I had just before the watch party started to learn about the potential of events being rigged for publicity of a country. Despite this, I saw many Eastern European and West and Central Asian finalists. Seeing this, I felt torn on whether to watch or not, and opted to do so.
